Astra's Lost Journey

Puzzle Adventure - PC

Astra's Lost journey is a 3D puzzle platform game currently made for PC. This was built using Unreal Engine 4 (version 4.26.2). I was in charge of the environment design, visualisation & leading our group for this group project.

For the duration of the 5 weeks to develop this game, I was in charge of leading the team, creating the environment with the given assets from my other team member artists & planning the levels with the group.

Forest Area

The opening of the game starts with Astra waking up in a calm forest. The closer the player travels towards the waterfall the curvier & unnatural the trees become indicating through the environment the portal to Astra's home is getting closer. 

Cave area:

Behind the waterfall the player will enter a cave area. The lighting is set to be darker so for the crystals to stand out with their glow. The crystals on the walls have unique colors & are all breakable objects when rammed with. The linear path is designed to show the player the locked door that can only be unlocked via the minecart pressure plate puzzle.

Hub Room:

This is found beyond the locked door in the cave, it branches off for the player to explore the other hallways to retrieve the puzzle pieces & match the table on the left. In the environment, Astra's symbol on her forehead is seen more as you progress to show you are closer to finding her portal home.
The lighting in the Hub room is important as the right table will light up the same as the left once they're matching. Starting off, the right table will be lit up as red until the table is complete. The fire is also animated & made to produce lighting clearly for all the branched off hallways to be seen.

Chess Puzzle Room:

This room is a closed off room only having the chess puzzle within it. Not all of the pieces are kept within here as they are hidden around the Hub room & other puzzle rooms. No chess pieces are placed beyond the end door or even before the Hub room.

Music Room:

The second puzzle room involves the music puzzle which has the sound crystals surrounding a broken water fountain. Here a puzzle piece can be found hidden inside the water fountain for the chess room. The lighting for this room is darker as it allows for the sound crystals to light up as the unique tune is playing. Setting out the environment with this level of lighting will allow for the puzzle to be easier to complete & to be seen. 

Portal Room:

Passing through the locked door in the Hub room will grant access to the Portal room. As this is the final room of the temple it is the most important for it to show importance. To visualise this, ram knight statues are placed around the entirety of the room with the symbols above them. The room is symmetrical even with the lighting on the statues & above symbols for the main focus to be the glowing portal at the end of the room. These lights match the different mechanics & how Astra's forehead lights up.

Home Planet Pic

Home Planet

Astra has returned back to the lush outdoors of her home planet. Here in this environment shows the other end of the portal where she will be walking through in the cutscene with other rams relaxing by the logs. The foliage is covering the entire landscape for the lush and comforting environment with added flowers & fallen leaves.
